St Mark Coptic Centre for Community Development has undertaken several activities to alleviate poverty and improve the socio-economic conditions of needy people.
Example activities are:
Organise benevolent programs and provide financial assistance to help disadvantaged people in Australia and overseas to satisfy their basic needs, especially shelter, food and basic education, and establish economic activities to increase their income in order to become self-reliant.
Develop and implement social and economic programs for the homeless, migrants, refugees, prisoners, homeless people and others to contribute to improving their conditions, increasing their integration in the community, adopting the Australian values and culture, and establishing their networks to become socially accepted in the community.
Provide temporary accommodation for needy people including migrants, refugees and people from interstates until a more suitable housing is organised or they find their own accommodation.
Provide education, counselling and case management for parents and children affected by domestic violence or at risk of domestic violence.
Provide care and organise regular visits for migrants and refugees, seniors in nursing homes, sick people in hospitals, and inmates in prisons. Foster integration for needy children, youth and adults in the community. This includes indoor and outdoor games, activities and exercises, children playgrounds, fields for soccer and other sports as deemed necessary.
Provide nutrition education and life skills for needy children and adults. This includes organising meetings, workshops and conferences, camps, family retreats and excursions and entertainment.
Provide meals for undernourished people to help with improving their nutrition and food intake. Organise transport for disadvantaged people including frail older persons.
Assist people affected by severe weather conditions and death of their loved ones.
Provide assistance to single mothers suffering from social economic conditions. Provide food, education and financial assistance and undertake other activities for children in Africa and Asia.
